After reading some of the comments on the blog post we did on Sunday regarding the "Internship Campaign", I think I need to address some problems and issues that have arisen and clarify some things about the project, the staff and our trip in late May.
First, the Internship Campaign. We have decided to open the opportunity up for females interested in this opportunity. That being said, this opportunity is an opportunity WE created. Not an opportunity we were given. This project was created by US and WE make the decisions. Why? Because we are up all hours of the night working hard at it, racking our brains trying to make opportunities for this project. Spending thousands of dollars to ensure the success of this project, sacrificing time with family and friends, putting our money and our time where our mouths are. And that is how it should be, I am not complaining, but I want our supporters and fans know that because of this, we make the decisions on what, when and where we should go, who goes with and well you get the point. We appreciate the help we have received, whether through donations, time given, work completed and we are doing our best to make sure everything we do is above the standards of others. I wanted to go with a male companion, not because I feel women can't handle it, I know they can do most everything as good or better than a man, I was raised by a very strong, single mother. Also not because I think that I am God's gift to women and that they would fall over themselves to try to have me, on the contrary, I actually have issues with self-esteem and I question why my wife would be with someone as unattractive and "used up" as I am. I wanted a male companion to travel with me because I am more comfortable with a man, that's it, nothing more. That being said, we have heard the roar of the women and have opened this up to their gender as to ensure we are fair.
We have received comments about why we are not paying people for this internship campaign and that we are taking advantage of people because of that. Well, than all of us on the staff of this project and being taken advantage of. None of us are being paid. Let me say that, one more time, NONE OF US ARE BEING PAID. In fact, all of us have spent hundreds, thousands of our own miniature fortunes (some more miniature than others), with no guarantee of any type of return. We all believe in this project, want to see it through and are dedicated to ensuring that happens. Not for fame, not for some huge paycheck, but because we want to show a different, unique perspective of what has happened and continues to happen over there. Ultimately, we want to use the funds from the sale of the book, if that happens, to fund the Graffiti of War Foundation to help veterans, service members and their families cope and heal from PTSD. This is our paycheck, to make a difference, to leave a mark and change the world just that little bit before we all move on to the next world.
Some of you may say, "Well what about Maxim and your blogging for them?" I am glad you asked that question. Maxim is NOT paying us in any way. They are not paying us per word, they are not paying us per click, they are not paying us ANYTHING. What they are giving us is exposure, which is worth more than money to us. The more we are in the eyes of those who can help make a difference with us, the better our chances at completing this project are. So, we are very sorry we can't pay the intern candidate, however, since none of us are getting paid, you are in good company.
I hope this clears some issues up and if you have any other issues, concerns and questions please feel free to contact us, comment on this blog or send us a message on Facebook. If you would like to simply post hateful comments, save your hate for somewhere that would listen, try Nazi's R Us or something like that. We appreciate constructive criticism, questions and concerns, however, you don't have to say "I hope you die under a bridge" to get your point across. Thank you to all of our fans and supporters, we appreciate every penny you donate and every effort you give, we are truly grateful beyond words could express.
I have reposted the requirements for the "Internship Campaign" in the document. We are taking ALL genders, races, colors, creeds, sexual orientations, religions, cat lovers, dog lovers, turtle lovers Everyone except for ages under 21. Please do not take our choice of 21 and up as a slight towards the younger fans, however, I would prefer to have someone with just a bit of life experience and the ability to have a couple drinks before and after our trip.
